In May 2022, Du Beurre launched after extensive research, inspired by founder Joan Okwori’s deep connection to candles as a source of comfort, rooted in memories with her late best friend.

Realising the harmful effects of mainstream luxury products, she sought to create a self-care haven that nurtures both body and environment.

Growing up in her mother’s salon, where natural beauty was a way of life, Okwori embraced holistic well-being.

This philosophy became the foundation of Du Beurre, prioritising natural ingredients to support both physical and mental health.

Du Beurre?

As a proud Nigerian, Okwori is often asked why she chose a French name for her brand.

The name Du Beurre was an homage to France.

Okwori witnessed her mother's struggle with sensitive skin, which limited her to using products specially made in and imported from France.

Inspired by French craftsmanship and its role in her mother’s beauty journey, Okwori sought to immortalise that connection through her own creations.

Through Du Beurre, Joan Okwori has created a space that encourages individuals to reflect and nurture their sense of self, believing that from this foundation, all aspects of life can flourish.
