Luxury without compromise.

Our story

In May 2022, Du Beurre made its debut in the market after extensive research.

Founder, Joan Okwori, drew inspiration from her connection with candles as a source of comfort and security in her space. Her goal was to create a haven of self-care and appreciation that would evoke similar emotions for others. However, she quickly recognised the adverse effects candles and other mainstream creations in the luxury sector have on physical health and the environment.

Growing up in her mother's salon, where natural beauty products were the norm, Okwori absorbed her mother's expertise as a certified beauty therapist and aesthetician which led her on a journey of appreciating holistic well-being for the body, mind, and surroundings. Her and her mother’s belief that the body is a temple and the environment is its playground became the foundation of Du Beurre. This philosophy prompted her to incorporate natural ingredients into her creations, with a focus on enhancing physical and mental health.

The name Du Beurre was an homage to France. Okwori witnessed her mother's struggle with sensitive skin, which limited her to using products specially made in and imported from France. She developed a special appreciation for French creations and the language and wanted a line of creations that immortalised that.

Focusing on luxury and environmental consciousness, Okwori’s personal values reflect a commitment to campaign aesthetics, physical health, environmental awareness, and fragrance. This holistic approach results in visually stunning creations that indulge the senses, defining the essence of Du Beurre.

“There is nothing more precious than being at peace in your own space, and these candles are a representation of that. The essence of Du Beurre lies in creating a healthy space for people to dwell in within their own rights. I have always been a firm believer in having it all. You don’t have to choose between well-being and luxury, you can have both.”
